Cathy Nagy, C. Psych. Associate
Qualifications and Experience
Cathy is a clinical Psychological Associate registered for autonomous practice with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. This registration qualifies her to be able to offer psychological testing, formulate and communicate mental health diagnoses, and provide treatment in the form of talk therapy.
She works in the areas of clinical, counselling and rehabilitation psychology, with adults, couples, and adolescents. She received her Master's degree in clinical psychology from York University, and has been providing psychotherapy to the Durham community and surrounding areas since 2005, through her work in various private practice settings and community agencies.
Her approach to working with clients is transparent and authentic, meaning that she shares with clients what she is thinking and why. She believes in creating a relationship that builds trust and respect, creating a safe environment for her clients to explore the most sensitive and painful areas of their life. She works together with her clients to match their uniqueness with approaches and strategies that are most likely to lead to success – however they have defined it.
All people are unique and so no one process will work for every client. She draws from various psychological theoretical orientations including cognitive behavioural, client-centred, psychodynamic, and solution focused frameworks. She has experience working with a broad range of problems within both long term and brief models of therapy, and will draw from these various approaches depending on a client's particular needs and presenting issues. She is deeply committed to helping clients to develop the tools they need to address their difficulties, to understand themselves more fully, and finally, to live a better and more fulfilling life.
Dianne Kennaley, RSW., RP., Psychotherapist
Qualifications and Experience
Dianne is a psychotherapist with 15 years of experience in the Durham Region and is registered with both the Ontario College of Social Workers and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She graduated with a Master's degree in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1998. Since that time, she has worked in various clinical settings as both a psychotherapist and a clinical supervisor. Her practice is focused on work with adolescents, adults and couples with a wide range of presenting issues and concerns.
In working therapeutically with people, Dianne operates from a collaborative and strengths based approach. Ultimately, her belief is that all people inherently possess the potential for success and happiness. Part of her work will concentrate on identifying her clients' innate strengths and abilities and how they can harness these strengths so that they can overcome obstacles in their lives. She finds that this approach enables individuals to find creative, satisfying, and long lasting solutions to their problems. The end goal of successful therapy is for clients to leave with a new level of insight that allows them to achieve growth and increased self-esteem which leads to feeling empowered and able to cope with future problems. As needed, she incorporates cognitive behavioural, solution focused, and narrative approaches to therapy.
